INVESTORS SUMMARY
The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) is a multilateral development bank with a mission to improve social and economic outcomes in Asia. Headquartered in Beijing, it began operations in January 2016 and has now grown to 100 approved members worldwide. By investing in sustainable infrastructure and other productive sectors in Asia and beyond, it will better connect people, services and markets that over time will impact the lives of billions and build a better future. The Republic of Kazakhstan ratified the AIIB Articles of Agreement on 24 June 2015. Since then, the AIIB has invested in various projects in Kazakhstan, often related to infrastructure, such as CAREC.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT
The Centre – West project will connect Astana with Western regions, creating the conditions for increased cargo turnover and cooperation between the Central and Western regions, integrating road, sea and rail transport. Certain sections of the highway will be upgraded to the 1st technical sector with cement and asphalt-concrete surface, with the expected average traffic growing to up to 9,000 vehicles. The project will be completed in 2020.
