INVESTORS SUMMARY

This project was fully financed by the government of Kazakhstan, but after the project was launched, 49% of the port’s shares were bought by the Chinese company of Lianyungang Port Holding Group.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT

Coordination of the activities of the Khorgos hub with the Aktau seaport as the main Kazakhstan transport hub on the Transport Corridor Europe Caucasus Asia (TRACECA) and North–South international corridors will create an effective route for the movement of goods from the western and central regions of China to Iran, the countries of the Persian Gulf, Turkey and the countries of Europe. This is a strategic project that has great commercial potential. The port has a total area of 129,8 ha is located on the logistics (224,9 ha) and industrial (224,6 ha) zones, thus providing an optimal solution for the containers handling and other logistic, - and further industrial -services to participants of SEZ. Tax and customs incentives are also provided.

The project is branded as a BRI project. In the media and in the profile of the project, it is highlighted that the project is well incorporated into BRI.

Khorgos Gateway project is contributing significantly to the development of both the local communities as well as positioning Kazakhstan as a country in the epicenter of the New Eurasian Economy.
