Description of the project

Chinese investors fought to obtain licences for geological exploration, prospecting and oil and gas production in Uzbekistan for many years, which they obtained in 2016. Eventually, four gas fields were handed to CNPC.

“New Silk Road Oil & Gas Company Ltd” was established by “Uzbekneftegaz” and CNODC for an arrangement of gas condensate fields in Uzbekistan. [1]

In 2017 the first stage of the project was commissioned. The project covers 3 gas fields: Dengizkul, Khojadavlat and Sharky Alat, with a maximum design annual output of 1 billion cubic meters. [2]

China Petroleum Engineering & Construction Corporation (CPECC) will perform designing, logistics, construction and commissioning of infrastructure facilities for arrangement of gas fields. The construction of 11 operational wells will perform XIBU Drilling Engineering Company Ltd, repair and testing of operational wells on the Karakul investment block - China National Logging Corporation. [3]

As a result of the full implementation 869.6 mln cubic meters per year of gas and 6.400 ton per year of condensate will be produced in the fields annually.  [4]

The commissioning of the project will deepen natural gas cooperation between China and Uzbekistan, and will be of great significance to promoting economic development in Uzbekistan. [5]

Uzbekistan aims to more than double its oil production by 2025.
