The ADB has been involved in many projects in Tajikistan over the last couple of decades. The ADB aims to create sustainable economic development in the country.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT

The project will increase supply of renewable energy to national and regional power systems. Since many power plants are outdated in Tajikistan, they need renovation or replacement. The project will refurbish electrical and mechanical equipment for power generation and transmission at Golovnaya Hydropower Plant (HPP) in Tajikistan. This will increase year-round clean power for domestic sales and for export to Afghanistan. The project will increase the generation capacity and operational efficiency of the power plant. The impact of the project will be increased supply of renewable energy to national and regional power systems from 743 GWh in 2012 to 1,130 GWh in 2026. The project outcome will be increased weighted average generation efficiency of the power plant from 83% to 89%. The Project output will be increased generation capacity from 240 MW to 252 MW.
