Asia Steel Pipe LLP is a joint Kazakh - Chinese venture. The share capital of the Chinese Central Asia Ruisi Steel Pipes (Tianjin) Corporation (CNPC subsidiary) is 50%, another 25% belongs to Kazakhstani companies “Dostar Drilling” LLP  and “Service Pipes Holding” LLP. [1]

NC Kazakh Invest JSC  is a national operator that was established to promote sustainable socio-economic development of the Republic of Kazakhstan by attracting foreign investment in priority sectors of the economy and comprehensive support of investment projects.

Description of the project

Asia Steel Pipe has invested $50 million in the construction of a steel pipe manufacturing plant with a 100,000 tons annual capacity of high-quality items, with future plans to expand production up to 150,000 tons per year. The diameter of steel pipes produced will be 355 to 1420 mm.[2]  The welded pipes are specifically designed for the transportation of oil, gas, water and petroleum products, and will be used in mining, chemical industry and in the energy field. It is also planned to produce anti-corrosion coatings, the production line includes 38 different methods of the product treatment. [3]

The plant is located in the area of 18,3 hectares in the Industrial zone of Alatau district of Almaty. The total cost of the project is $100 million and the facility will supply 70 percent of imported pipe products. [4] The project will create more than 300 permanent jobs. [5]

This project was included in the National Industrialization Map of Kazakhstan and in China’s Belt and Road Initiative.

The factory launch was planned in 2018, but was postponed due to delays in financing from both parties.[6]
